People want to talk about there being a secret sauce to ranking websites and to be honest, that can’t be further than the truth. I liken SEO marketing to a puzzle. The first couple of times you put the puzzle together it can be rather difficult. However, once you learn where all the pieces fit, it becomes more simplistic. In today’s world, we have multiple software programs that help you figure out the issues of your website and help you rank in 2020.
Here is a list of SEO software that I use currently or have used in the past to help me rank websites on Google and Bing. Some of these software programs are free or offer a free version. While others have trial versions but do cost.
Site Audit Software
Screaming Frog: Simply put is an SEO spider software that allows for crawling of websites. This software provides an analysis of technical onsite SEO issues. They have free and paid versions. If you are just starting the free versions are more than enough.
Siteliner: This is a completely free tool that helps find onsite issues such as duplicate content, broken links, and offers site page comparison. This is an online based software and is very easy to use. I use this to provide a quick overview of some common onsite issues.
WooRank: is a multi-faceted software tool that can be used for onsite and keyword planning. I have used it to run onsite audit reports. They provide an in-depth analysis of your website that pinpoints issues that can be fixed to help you optimize and rank better. This software costs but they do currently offer a 14 day free trial.
Once you have corrected all the technical issues on the site you will need to focus on producing content. To produce content that converts you will need an understanding of how to find keywords that can bring traffic to your site. Keyword planning is crucial not only does it help with your onsite content but also help you figure out what text you should use in your anchor text while building backlinks.
People naturally tend to look at the keywords that produce a lot of traffic. These are great if your site has the domain authority and the resources to rank for them. What I do when coming up with content ideas I focus on the broad topic and find keywords that I can rank well within the broad topic and write content that focuses on that.
Keyword Finding Tools
Google Keyword Planner: This is a free, very basic, and simplistic tool designed for creating Google Adword campaigns. However, this keyword traffic information can be easily implemented for your content creation. This tool is kind of vanilla, but the information is coming straight from the horse’s mouth.
Ahrefs: This another multifaceted software tool. Let’s focus on how it will help with keyword planning. Ahrefs has a keyword finder function. You simply type a word in and it comes back with similar words, along with important data such as search volume and keyword difficultly. This software is pricey compared to other tools, but it’s well worth the cost.
Ubersuggest: This is a completely free tool that provides useful keyword data such as keyword suggestions, traffic numbers, SEO difficulty. This tool is simple to use and provides the data in a format that is easy to understand.
Once you have great content and have naturally sprinkled the keywords you want to rank for within that relevant topic. You will need to focus on link building. There are many ways to build links some good, and some not. However, for this article, I will cover the tools that help me find quality relevant link opportunities.
Ahrefs: I mentioned this tool earlier, and is by far my favorite SEO tool that I use. The amount of data they provide is crazy good. Ahrefs bread and butter is as a backlink checker. You can check backlinks not only for your site but also for your competitors. They provide a complete backlink profile and anchor test usage. This information is extremely useful when building links for your website.
Website SEO Checker: This is a free online SEO tool that I use to qualify backlink opportunities. You simply put in the domain of a site you want to check. You will get important information such as domain authority, page authority, spam score, and majestic trust and citation flow numbers. The information is easily readable and is a pretty good tool for being free.
There are many aspects to doing SEO marketing but these tools will help give you a leg up on the competition. If you are just starting, I would recommend using the free or trial versions of these tools. This way you can educate yourself about SEO and have a better understanding of what tools you will need.
